Christian Metal Fans 'Raise Hell' In Church
October 8, 2002Christian "nu metal" band GRYP recently played a show at the First Church of God in Lancaster, California, and the band's fans raised hell in the church, even smashing some of the pews to pieces.
Drummer Mike Sharp says fans were jumping off the church stage and onto the pews and moshing like they would at any metal show — the presence of God notwithstanding.
He says the pastors were "pretty distraught" and brought in some parents to act as impromptu security. However, the band still got away scot-free.
Sharp doesn't have a cross to bear with his rowdy fans for their behavior. He says his band's fans, secular or not, are usually "pretty crazy."
GRYP's self-titled debut record is set to hit stores in early 2003.
